What is a PAYG Variation?

A PAYG Variation is an ATO approved adjustment to the tax withheld from your pay. Instead of waiting until tax time to claim your work related deductions, a PAYG Variation instructs your employer to reduce the tax taken out of each pay — so therefore you take home more money every pay cycle…

How long does it take to set up?

Once you decide to go ahead, most clients are fully set up within 4 weeks of the finance settling. We handle all the finance paperwork and provide you with a simple step-by-step guide to lodge your ATO application yourself — for free. You just need to provide a few details and sign off. The savings start showing up in your pay once the ATO approves your variation.

How much could I save?

Most of our clients save between $200 and $400 per fortnight, depending on their vehicle, work use and deductions. During your free Discovery Chat, we'll give you a rough idea — then your personalised Savings Blueprint will show you the exact numbers.

What happens after I fill out the form?

Will I owe the ATO money at tax time?

No. A PAYG variation doesn't change how much tax you owe — it changes when you receive the benefit. Instead of overpaying all year and getting a refund at tax time, you take home the right amount every pay. Your end-of-year position stays the same — you just stop lending the ATO your money interest-free.

Is this actually legal?

Absolutely. A PAYG withholding variation is a standard ATO process under section 15-15 of Schedule 1 of the Tax Administration Act. Thousands of Australians use it every year. We simply help you apply correctly and structure your deductions to maximise the result.

Do I need to use my car 100% for work?

No — but you do need to use it more than 50% for work purposes. Most of our clients fall in the 50–80% range, which is common for anyone who drives to client sites, between jobs, or carries tools and equipment. During the Discovery Chat, we'll help you work out your percentage and whether you qualify.

Does my employer have to adjust my tax withholding?

Once the ATO approves your variation, your employer is legally required to apply it — it's not optional for them. We provide you with a simple step-by-step guide to lodge the application yourself for free through the ATO. Most people get it done in under 60 minutes, and once it's approved, you just hand the letter to your payroll team.

Can my accountant do this for me?

Your accountant can lodge a PAYG variation, but most don't proactively offer it. And very few suggest combining it with vehicle finance structuring to maximise the result. We bundle the variation & the finance together — so your loan structure, depreciation, and tax savings all work as one strategy.

What's the difference between going to my bank and using a broker?

Your bank offers their products. We search 30+ lenders to find the right fit for your situation. Plus we look at the full picture: loan structure, fees, flexibility, and tax savings. Most clients end up thousands better off than going direct.

Do I need good credit?

Not necessarily. We work with 30+ lenders including specialists who help people with less-than-perfect credit. We'll assess your situation honestly during the Discovery Chat and let you know what's possible — no surprises, no wasted credit enquiries.

I'm self-employed — does this work for me?

The PAYG variation is specifically for PAYG employees who receive a regular wage or salary. So if you are a company director and pay yourself a salary & superannuation, then this can work for you. But if you're a self-employed sole trader, you may already be claiming deductions through your BAS — but we can still help with vehicle finance and making sure you're not leaving money on the table. Do I need a deposit for vehicle finance?

Not always. Many lenders offer 100% finance for eligible borrowers, especially for newer vehicles. We'll advise what's available based on your situation during the Discovery Chat.

Will applying affect my credit score?

We do a preliminary assessment first without running a credit check. Once we've identified the right lender, we'll discuss the application with you before any formal credit enquiry is made. No surprises.
